Because open source initiative, open source lead technology movement. Lets enter the open source world, open source hardware, open source software, free software.
I introduce to Linux first. Even if you not use Linux, let you free to learn , free to try new thing, just because you are young.
I use Ubuntu , it is a great Linux distro. I also use Linux kernel for my server. Some people have said that :"Ubuntu just for news people who want to play with Linux". But I think If you use Ubuntu, because you love to use it. No thing more.
I also deploy and use many web, network service on Ubuntu/Debian server. This blog also run on the top of a Linux system. If you just use Windows , you will never know why Linux is great!
Linux powers 94% of the world's supercomputers, most of the servers powering the Internet, the majority of financial trades worldwide and a billion Android devices. In short, Linux is everywhere. It appears in many different architectures, from mainframes to server to desktop to mobile and on a staggeringly wide variety of hardware.2
You may not realize it, but Linux is everywhere. It’s most likely in the car you drive, the TV you watch, the smartphone you talk on, and maybe even the refrigerator you store your food in! It powers almost all of the websites you visit, and it’s behind virtually all the special effects you see in summer blockbusters. In short, Linux is ubiquitous. And it’s only becoming more and more common. 5
Oh, I know many people do not want to run Linux in their desktop or laptop. But they may use an Android3 phone.
Ok, Android is operate system for mobile phone. But what is the Android really is ? Android a mobile operating system (OS) based on the Linux kernel4
Linux is very where. Linux running on you smart TV, Linux in your home, Linux running on your phone, tablet. If you use Mac OS it very same with Linux distro.
Mac OS is based on a BSD code base, while Linux is an independent development of a unix-like system. This means that these systems are similar, but not binary compatible. Furthermore, Mac OS has lots of applications that are not open source and are build on libraries that are not open source.2
Ok, I cant write more. But you can read more if you want to find for your self the meaning of Linux.
In this post1 the author has written that:
Linux Creator Linus Torvalds introduces the Linux Foundation's new Massive Open Online Course with EdX, Introduction to Linux. This course explores the various tools and techniques commonly used by Linux programmers, system administrators and end users to achieve their day-to-day work in a Linux environment. It is designed for experienced computer users who have limited or no previous exposure to Linux, whether they are working in an individual or Enterprise environment.
This is a good course to learn to use and find the meaning of Linux
