Right way to install Linux

Written on 18 July 2015

Install Linux the right way in your Laptop, PC.

Why the right way or good way?

  • Easy backup config.
  • Easy to fix error.
  • Easy to change harddisks partition.

To start you must understand Unix file system structure

├── bin
├── boot
├── cdrom
├── dev
├── etc
├── home
├── media
├── mnt
├── opt
├── proc
├── root
├── run
├── sbin
├── srv
├── swapfile
├── sys
├── tmp
├── usr

So crazy To simple , when you make three partition like this

sda 8:0 0 300G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 40G 0 part /
└─sda2 8:2 0 120G 0 part /home
└─sda3 8:3 0 140G 0 part /data

Then install Linux , your system will run so good. And when you reinstall OS ,you config and data don't be lost.

Use swapfile instead use swap partition , you can read a tuitorial How to Add a Swap File and do step by step.

And finally you will get swap without swap partion, and check again use free -h

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 3.8G 3.5G 280M 405M 25M 723M
-/+ buffers/cache: 2.7G 1.0G
Swap: 4.0G 16M 4.0G
